Route 66 Cruiser Meeting Minutes

Pizza Hut, March 5, 2017

Dwayne Caldwell called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. 

Debbi Bennett read the minutes.  A motion to accept as read was made by Nick Carter and seconded by Jim White. No one opposed and the motion was accepted.  

The Treasurer’s report was given by Anita Moorehead.  A motion to accept as was made by James Rigler and seconded by Nick Carter.  No one opposed and the motion was accepted.

New member Gary Raach was introduced.  Guests Mike Lenahan and Kevin and Gay Kohls we also introduced.  

New Business

Casey’s General Store has committed to a $300 sponsorship for the car show.  The donation should come in May.  Sharon sent a sponsor form to QuikTrip and are waiting on a response. We are going to need lots of water for the car show.  Please asked for donations from drug stores or other likely outlets.

Dwayne is keeping track of vendors to see if we have enough wanting to camp at the lake Friday night before the show.  If we get enough vendors, Dwayne will work with the city to make arrangements.  There has not been any mention costs and security will consist of closing the gates and contacting Dwayne (who lives near the lake) of any after hour concerns. 

Sharon Caldwell has contacted Southwest Airlines and was successful in securing two round trip tickets to anywhere they fly in the US.  The members of the board voted to sell the raffle tickets this year.  The tickets will be $5 each or 5 for $20.  Members will also be eligible to buy tickets.  Dwayne is looking at having the tickets printed.

Paul Richards indicated he is working with David’s Wheels for a donation which we could also raffle.

Christy Dorsey and Marj Satterfield of Glad Wags spoke to us regarding their upcoming Poker Run.  This year the poker run is in Memory of David Dorsey and benefits Glad Wags. The poker run is a 170 mile trip beginning at the Glad Wags Training Center and ending at the American Legion Post 1.  There is also a raffle for a rifle and gun safe.  Glad Wags is a training program for service dogs using rescue dogs.  New this year is  AfterParty VIP tables $100 each are available.  Each person at the table receives 10 raffle tickets.  All information can be found on their website gladwagsservicedogs.org. 

Paul Richards gave a thank you to all who participated in the Starbird Show.  Paul said that we had five vehicles that received awards.  

At the “Car Show Cruise In” on Friday night of the Car Show Weekend the Fire Fighters will do the cooking.  Tickets will be given to members and car show participants for free hot dogs and trimmings.  We will also have food trucks for spectators.  

We will have a get-together on March 8th at 5:00 p.m. at El Maguey’s.

Next Cruise will be on March 18 to Sapulpa to visit the Rt 66 Car Museum ($5+tax Charge) and Sign of the Times Museum (Free).   A place to eat will be determined.  Meeting at Pizza Hut to leave at 9:00 a.m. - Verdigris cruisers meet at 266 overpass. 

The Elks Car show will be held on March 25th.  There will be a $20.00 Entry fee.  There is a BBQ cook-off and a motorcycle jump contest. 

April 1st is a benefit car show at Justice Tiawa School 9 – 12.  T

On April 2 the Church known as The Porch is having a Fish Fry at 11:00 at the Inola High School.  They would love to have some old cars there.  It is free so come early to insure you get to eat. 

The meeting was turned over to Brian McDonald who is running for Ward 4 City Council Seat.  He has two main issues: Traffic and High Cost of Electricity.  Vote on April 4th.

Next meeting will be April 2nd.

Jim White motioned to adjourn and Nick Carter seconded.  The motion carried and the meeting adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
